Mamaws' Story

Our family has been going through a little drama lately. Our family doesn't really do drama, so I am new to this whole scenario.

Some background: John's mom's mom is named Mamaws. Yes, plural. Her and John have a very strong bond. She spent a lot of time with him when he was little and established a strong relationship that continues to this day.

From the first moment, Mamaws has also taken me as her own. I only had 1 grandmother I knew and I was her 13th grandchild. She was kind of over having grandchildren. I know she loved me but she was older, in poor health and 5 hours away. All this to say, mamaws adopted me as her own from the first couple months of John and my relationship, seventeen years ago.

Mamaws has had a rough 2013. Her husband of 30 years fell and broke his hip. While he was in the hospital and rehab Bob's son Zack stayed with Mamaws. Mamaws got a viral infection that landed her in the hospital. While she was sick, Bob had what we can only think were mini-strokes. He became very disoriented, agitated, and sadly, voilent. For John's mom to get power of attorney, he had to be diagnosed in a mental facility as not able to understand what is going on. After being checked in, the establishment couldn't give Janice any information due to hippa laws. After his two weeks were complete, Janice called and was informed his son Zack had checked him out. Janice by this point had gotten power of attorney for her mom, Mamaws so she could take care of their bills, their house and all the other responsibilities. Sadly, once she finally got power of attorney and went to the bank, she found out Bob's power of attorney took out close to $30,000. They had bounced a mortgage payment and their cable bill had been run up to $2000 from movie charges. Easter morning, Mamaws fell and broke her hip. She had surgery and is recovering in the Memphis Jewish Nursing Home.

About 3 weeks ago Mamaws' house burned down while and Bob and his son were there. It was said that Bob started the fire in the kitchen while cooking. The investigators found the fire was started in the back bedroom and gasoline was used. The investigators claim it was arson and I believe them. While the house burned, Bob was so disoriented he had to stay in the car. He dosed on and off while his house and all his possession burned.

Mamaws hasn't seen her husband in months and now has lost her house and all her belongings. She was told that Bob believes Mamaws left him, which broke her heart more than losing all her possessions.

I heard a sermon by my good friend Eli Morris just a couple weeks ago. It was about justice/revenge/fairness. God is just. I can't be concerned with what is 'fair' or 'right' or 'just' in my mind. God is going to see that right prevails, so I can't be overcome by something unfair. God's going to take care of that in the end.

So justice isn't what I seek. Prayers are. I pray Mamaws recovers from her hip surgery. I pray Bob can get all the medical assistance he can. I pray whatever demons that are possessing people to make these horrible decision to cease. My God is powerful. My God is greater. My God will prevails. He shows me every time I talk with Mamaws.
