Kindergarten

Even though my baby has been going to 'school' since 3 month olds, there is just something about starting Kindergarten. It's a huge milestone for him and his momma. There wasn't any blubbering this year, but I did continue the tradition of reading him "The Kissing Hand". Luke isn't always my sensitive one. He is analytical...a deep thinker...like his daddy.

Luke was placed in the fabulous Mrs. Templeton and Mrs. Crane's room. These two ladies are miracles workers and truly love their kids.

Luke isn't one to make friends quickly. He loves his friends, but keeps most new people at an arm's distance for a while. So when he one day come running to me and was super excited to introduce me to his new friend. He kept calling her MY Makenna while beaming...BEAMING. Later on the way home, we had this conversation
Me: Luke, I am so glad you made a new friend today. I bet she was nervous coming into a new school and you made her feel good.
Luke: Yeah, well...I am gonna marry Makenna.
Me: Oh...really.
Luke: Yup, I am going to marry Makenna because she's beautiful. I'm gonna marry her fair and square.

No worries, I've already texted the future in-laws about the agreement.

One of the biggest deals about Kindergarten is eating in the cafeteria!! Such a big deal! We went a couple days of bringing out lunch and getting use to the 'feel' of the place. But by Thursday he came home demanding we NOT send a lunch box. While he was getting his lunch items he told Mrs. Crane he had to have cheese for protein. Now I am not quite sure what food group the Krave cereal goes into. But look at that proud face!!

And when you make it through your VERY FIRST week of Kindergarten, you have to celebrate with chocolate donuts. Oh Lukey, I am so proud of you. I pray this year opens your heart and your mind to all the amazing possibilities God has for you.

School Daze

I love the first day of school at St. George's. Kids are dressed in their new outfits. There is a photobooth. A string quartet is playing as the kids enter chapel. And CHAPEL! My kids open their school year in chapel praying over students, teachers, and families. It literally is my favorite day of the whole year.

My heart can't handle TimeHopping some days. Look how Luke's confidence has grown and Evan's love for his brother never faltering. (PK&1st and JK&2nd)

And of course I get reunited with some of my favorite people on the planet like the people who I share an office and hall with!

I know, I know. I might be bragging a little. But what I am bragging about is not our trip. I am bragging on our marriage.

Marriage is work. There is absolutely no denying that. But it is the work I absolutely look forward to doing. It's work that I want to get right. It's work that I long to get better at each and every year. It's work that I get enjoyment and fulfillment from. But most importantly, it's work that I witness John doing as well.

John and I agreed after Evan was born that we would try our hardest to go on a date at least once a month sans kids and a vacation once a year sans kids.

Some years those 'vacations' may be a 24 hour trip to Nashville to go to a concert, or a night downtown at the Westin. One year we took the boys to see family and were able to drive 2 hours to the beach for one night.

Some years, we go big. Some years, we knock it out of the park. Sometimes, we go to Cancun and drink a lot of mojitos. So many in fact that when the bartenders sees you walking to your cabana he says, "mojitos senorita...DOOO-BLAY!"
